On 29th March, 14 ACC students will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to South Africa, as part of a trip organised by Bridges For Music Academy.
Focused on community engagement in Langa, the first township in South Africa, volunteers will work at the Bridges For Music Academy as part of their music team, taking part in a series of workshops and seminars including indigenous instrument workshops, DJ workshops, guest lectures and youth panel discussions.
The Bridges For Music Academy is a creative learning space in Langa on the edge of Cape Town, offering unemployed youth from under-resourced communities an inspiring and safe environment with access to world-class technology, mentorship and education designed to help them thrive in the world. The South Africa project is a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience, broaden our students’ horizons and give back to the creative community.
Of the 14 student volunteers taking part in the all-expenses paid trip, twelve will be music mentors and two from our media courses will be capturing the incredible experience.
“I am excited to go on the South Africa tour because I feel as though it will be a great opportunity to learn more about the country’s rich history, to share a cultural exchange by meeting new people and to form bonds as a community through music education. I am also excited to volunteer and give back to others, to reciprocate the wonderful experience I am sure I will have.” – Chinyere Muhammad, Level 3 Vocal Artist Student
