This course takes your passion for competitive gaming and teaches you how to turn it into a viable career in a number of different roles including team coach, tournament marketing, shoutcasting and more.

Gain relevant knowledge in each of the main areas of the esports industry, from player to events organiser, with transferable skills in sport, marketing, enterprise, IT, technical understanding, creativity and more.

Understand esports strategies and statistics, an introduction to marketing, promotion, and branding, producing content and the strategic areas of game design.

Gain detailed insight into the industry and keep up-to-date with the most recent eSports news and events to discuss current issues in eSports.

Build on your knowledge of eSports strategies and analysis to develop your coaching skills and performance analysis skill set.

Practice live broadcasting and shout-casting commentary with live games.

Work collaboratively with students on our Graphic Design and Games Design courses to consider games and character design.

Develop logos and branding material that accompany business development plans and game ideas.

From a player’s point of view, you may be expected to wear heart rate monitors and other health equipment to see the effects of stress on performance and health and to consider how to promote good health and well-being for esports players.

This course is based on the esports industry and as such participating in esports is an expectation, either as a player, coach, or organiser/technician. The college takes part in the Student Championships as part of the British Esports Federation for games such as Rocket League, Valorant, League of Legends, and Overwatch. There are also dedicated women’s leagues to raise engagement, as well as a mixture of open championships and nationals. Students will also have the opportunity to go to events and local competitions.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

At least four GCSEs at grades 4-9, or C-A* including English (other grades will be considered on a case by case basis).

MATHS AND ENGLISH

If you are 16-18 and don’t already have GCSE Grades 4 or above in mathematics and/or English Literature or Language, it will be compulsory for you to do a GCSE level maths and/or English course alongside your studies with us. Learn more here.

CAREERS AND PROGRESSION

With all the transferable skills you’ll learn on this course, the world really is your oyster. You can head off to University, study a Level 4/5 course or go straight into the world of work.

Typical career paths include:

  • Esports Coach: Working with individuals or teams to enhance their gameplay strategies, providing feedback, analysing VOD, and helping them improve their overall performance.
  • Esports Manager: Overseeing day-to-day operations, handling team logistics, coordinating schedules, managing player contracts, and developing partnerships with sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Esports Analyst or Commentator: Shoutcasting during live events, analysing gameplay strategies, and providing expert insights to viewers.
  • Esports Event Organiser: Planning and executing tournaments, coordinating with teams, securing venues, managing logistics, and ensuring a smooth event experience for participants and spectators.
  • Esports Marketing: Developing strategies to promote esports teams or individual products or services.
