Maths and English (ME) are essential to how we function in everyday life. Think about it, how often do you use ME? Probably a lot more than you realise! Keeping up to date with local news and events, cooking a meal, reading instructions on how to complete a game, completing an application form, working out how much your share of the pizza and drinks are, budgeting for the week.. the list is endless..
Maths and English (ME) qualifications are also usually required to go to university and for most career paths. Having them can give your future a real boost and provide you with more opportunities.
Regardless of where you chooses to study, if you are 16-18 (or 19+ with an EHCP) and don’t already have the Maths and English grade required (GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths and English Literature/Language, or an equivalent qualification), it will be compulsory for you to do a Maths and/or English course alongside your studies.
More information about conditions of funding for Maths and English, including if you have an EHCP, is available on the government’s website.
At ACC we run GCSE Maths and English courses that are tailored to your prior attainment, offering smaller classes and 1:1 support to help you achieve the ME grade you need for your chosen next steps.
The courses will consist of 2 x 1.5 hour lessons a week. For English Language, there are two, one hour 45 minute exams in November and/or Summer, and in Maths, there are three, one and a half hour exams in November and/or Summer. Our exam board is AQA.
If you were close to achieving a grade 4 in the summer exams, we offer the opportunity to take either the Maths or English Language GCSE exams in November.
